More information on how XMOS was used here.
Twitter reports indicate our very own Pytey on XCore is responsible for creating these.

The analysing electronics inside the box have been custom made, based on a custom programmable computer chip that is new to market: http://www.xmos.com/
There are two units, an input meter, and a transmitter.
The input meter records the local EMF readings. It passes this data to the transmitter unit which processes it and decides when an appropriate signal has been detected. This is broadcast to twitter as an event of potential interest.
The input meter looks for activity in a specific analog input range (low readings within the device's range are the most signal of paranormal activity). If it finds something in this range the transmitter unit sends a tweet, via a mobile network, to our global "search" account at @ParanormalAlert .
