Hey guy,
I have been pondering which SPI flash part to include in a new design. I will be using the free space in the flash to store user data. I have been informed that the flash that was used on the XC2 board the AT25DF041A should not be used in any new designs and have been recommended the Winbond W25X40 by Corin. The reservation that I have with this part is has a 4k erase sector size. This is not the best when using the functions for writing to the data partition as it requires a large buffer.
Can anyone suggest a flash that has a finer erase sector size?
Cheers
Matt

This is something I know nothing about. So I can't help you with choosing a specific flash device.
I do know that Ramtron have a line of FRAM based SPI memory devices which seem simpler to use and are faster than flash memory. Unfortunately, this would be an additional part to the firmware flash device.
