I saw someone using an old overhead-projector. It has a 650W lamp - resulting in 5½ minut time in the light. I guess it emitts enough UV by black-body radiation.

Google will lead you to many articles about people in the US using the cheap domestic toaster-ovens for low-cost prototyping. There seem to be more success stories than failures, even with some sophisticated and sensitive devices, BGAs, etc.
There are at least two kits for toaster-oven cycle controllers, which give the full preheat, flow, cool profiles.
I'll also mention batchpcb.com. They are part of (or closely associate with) Sparkfun. I have a board due back from them in the coming week. I'll report when I know more. I think the rates are good. $25 for 4 off, 1"x1" 2 layer. including shipping. Turnaround is 3 weeks-ish. Yes, China. And BatchPCB is in Colorado.

I'm just about to try my own toaster over reflow project. I followed the Sparkfun forum posts on the subject and I've designed a board based around a MAX6675 and I'm going to use my mbed board to control it.
I'm just trying to finish off a current layout and I'll send both boards off together to get made. Hopefully within a week or so. I'll try to remember to post back here with my results but feel free to shout if I haven't said anything in a month.
Shareef.

The L2 datasheet is here already:
http://www.xmos.com/support/documentation
(see the silicon section)
Note that the L1 64 and 128 datasheets have just gone through some tidy up and will shortly be released at v2.0. The L2 update will be following shortly after this but for pin-outs and so on the current version should be fine.
The chips themselves are imminent.
Dan
P.S. for some reason you can only get to the above via xmos.com->Support->Documentation, not via the technology->silicon link. Not sure why this is but it needs fixing.

Are there any news on the L2 status :?: :?:
The Gerber can be found on http://www.xmos.com/support/silicon

Is that gerbered example (in the package zip) actually approved for a 2 layer design or 4 only (it seems to have two plane layers GND +V?)
Are there still issues with using an L2 on a 2 layer only board?
regards
Al

I would love to see an update in the "Symbol Libraries" http://www.xmos.com/support/silicon
It's only Gerbers and pdf´s at the moment for the L2.

Did you get the L2's before the Vulcano got us ?leon_heller wrote:I just checked and they are available. I've ordered a couple.
Have you tried anything with them? I do not dare to be the first one making an L2 attempt.
