Multichannel audio development board unpopulated header?

I've just taken delivery of an Xcore-200 multichannel audio kit.
On the board, there is an unpopulated header, J12, with a nine pin footprint which looks like it might take a DB9 type connector.
I can see no reference to this header in the schematics in the hardware manual.
Can anyone tell me what is the function of this header?
