Planned site updates and new features - 3pm 1st June 2010

Post by jason »

There will be some planned maintenance at about 3pm today (1st June 2010) for a number of updates and features. Hopefully it will not take longer than about half an hour if all goes to plan.

Following feedback from the community, we have made XCore Exchange more usable by making a few changes to the site:

1) We have merged the news page with the front page so it becomes the main point of focus, both to new users and existing ones, when they first visit the site. Currently the news page is very easily overlooked. It also is common for community sites to have latest news etc on the front page itself. Content has been reshuffled so that it still works as a front landing page, whilst conveying important/useful information no matter if you are new or an experienced user of XCore.com.

2) To aid this new layout, the header was also changed to allow a greater number of top level navigation elements. Previously it was hard to get to areas such as "groups" which were hidden away deep within the site due to lack of space. This has also changed to a white theme to compliment the front page and give it a cleaner look and feel overall.

3) Following growing requests from community members, a wiki has been implemented and integrated with existing components on XCore - lets all contribute and make this a valuable resource to help everyone out.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you wish to use the wiki when it goes live, please ensure you log out fully from XCore.com and then log back in again. This will register your username with the wiki system for all users who joined prior to us having a wiki as this is an automated process - you will only have to do this once to gain access

4) A number of security patches and other key updates will also be applied, including the ability to track and be notified when someone comments on a node you have created. Obviously you can turn this option off should you not wish to receive notifications, but this will help people stay updated when someone has interacted with them.

Press CTRL F5 (if you use firefox) or whatever your force refresh command is for your web browser to get the latest stylesheets! You will still have the old ones in your browser cache!

Glad you like it though! Cheers.
