The '128 has 64 IOs the '64 has only 42.
Slight correction the L1-64 has 36 I/O pins D0-27,D32-39. Notice the missing D28-31 which breaks ports 16B and 8C and completely omits 4F. I think Xmos trying to squeeze the pins into this package figured having all the 1 bit ports were more important, I would probably concur, although a QFN72 would have been even better IMHO and included up to D43 giving 44 I/Os

Ups, yes. My bad. 36 IOs for the 64 pin version.

They should stick with 64 pins TQFP. Those QFN packages are not that convenient for hand solder...

Hmm TQFP with ground paddle is also a pain in the arse for hand soldering and easy to get wrong, so are the many 0402 decoupling caps that it requires. I tend to use hotplate or oven its much easier and less error prone. My vote would be for a QFN72 and the missing I/O, but perhaps a choice of both packages would be best!

I still havn't tried my

made for drag soldering. The tip is concave. The 128 pin would be a perfect candidate.

Maybe time to buy a card from ale500 - then I get to play with a FPGA as well.
