XCore Audio Board

Starting with xCORE Microphone Array, we stripped the DAC side, switched to seven Vesper VM3000 MEMs mic, removed level shifters LEDs, etc. Now we have a three page schematic, a much smaller BOM, etc.
The XUF216-512-TQ128-C20A and XUF216-512-TQ128-I20A are the candidate processors.
Unable to get answers from XMOS, before we build 5000 of these this year, we need answers to two questions, thank you:
1) When buying from a reel/tray do we get empty chips, which require that we use the JTAG to flash each one? Is there any more expedient way than doing each by hand?
2) Why did Digi-Key suddenly add the annotation "Not recommended for new designs"? Is there any roadmap, or guidance we can get?
The lack of response from XMOS is scary. Two of us have tried multiple times over the past few months. Normally we have conversations about the future and our volume need, before we commit. Dunno if this is a common situation.
THANK YOU
