My first XMOS project is starting show some decent results. I thought I would nominate myself for "project of the month".

My project is a Laser Engraver Controller. It is a nice fit for the XMOS. This type of controller is almost always done with a high end FPGA or DSP. XMOS is a good replacement option for those devices and is ideal for an open source project because of the low cost of entry and the familiar C like developement language.

The project is detailed on this web site.

The laser itself is also an open source design detailed here.

Wow that is a cool project. I wanted to build a CNC and a laser but i never got to figuring out the mechanics.

You may want to look at the XC-2 board and use the onboard ethernet right on that. Since controlling those steppers and PWM is only a fraction of what the xmos chip is capable of.

This is indeed very cool! You should create a project page on here too and link to it, as I never even knew of this sites existence until now! Also it needs to be a project on here to be suitable for Proj of the month and the more photos/videos of it in action the better. Great work though! Do you have any videos of it in action?

Project has been posted.

There is a link to the code at GitHub. I will add the PC side GUI controller source code soon.

Berni...I like the idea of the Ethernet and the board looks very "shield friendly", but the cost is a bit high. The I/O bandwidth requirement is quite low, so a USB/Serial is fine.

A video has been added of the laser engraving the XMOS logo into a piece of granite.
