Hi all
Early next week we'll be officially announcing a new mini dev kit that we are calling startKIT.
The early builds are in (see attached image) and we're pretty excited about the whole idea. We hope it will capture the imagination of new users, but also prove useful to the folk here who already know about xCORE.
We're in the process of developing various demo apps, and as part of that we plan a 'hackathon' next Thursday October 17 at the XMOS office in Bristol, when our engineering team will spend a day experimenting and exploring startKIT.
We're going to have space to invite a small number of people to join us from outside the company that day. So if you can get to Bristol next Thursday and you'd like to join us for some or all of the day, please DM or email me for more details. I'm hoping we'll have enough boards to send all of our outside visitors away with a free sample.
I'll try and post more details of the product in the coming days - at the moment we're racing against time to produce documentation. We're not deliberately being mysterious, please bear with us on that.

Interesting, how do you program it can't see an xsys/xtag connector, is it over usb?

Yes it is over USB, there is an embedded XTAG in the device.

Does it mean that the chip onboard is actually a new chip?
Do you have any dope on it perchance?
Or maybe a XS1-U1XA-128 with the usb half dedicated to Xtag
Hmm can the USB be switched into regular libxud usage (or even just a channel<->vcom would be nice) in addition to xtag?

It's an S2 aka SU02 aka U16. It says so right on the chip :-P
Let's hope debugging stays fully reliable and non-invasive;
it's certainly neat to not need to plug anything though :-)

I like this idea of a small Slice-enabled development board with built-in XTAG.
I notice the Slice slot has no Circle/Square/Triangle/Star icons, so I hope that means it will support all existing Slices. The slot would need two full 8-bit ports and 12 1-bit ports, like a Triangle slot.
I'm wondering why the physical slot is vertical as opposed to edge-mounted like the existing SliceKit. It seems that inserted Slices would be difficult to secure in place. You wouldn't be able to screw the StartKit and Slice to a flat surface and the zip-tie trick won't work with this board.

Looks pretty neat, just need to offer it for the right price.
By the way in what universe do the numbers written on the chip make any sense? If its a XS1-U16A-128 then write that on it, its not like this is a SOT-23 where you only have enough room for 3 or 4 characters.
