DNF capacitors

Post by SpacedCowboy »

This sounds (even to me) like a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway [grin]

In the schematics for the XC-1A kit that you can get from http://www.xmos.com/support/kits there are a whole bunch of decoupling capacitors labelled as DNF (Do Not Fit).

What's the point of a capacitor on a schematic that you don't place in the circuit ? *Mystified*

I'm basically using this as a base for a board, and I want to make sure I fit an adequate number of decoupling capacitors [grin].

Well they eater decided later they want less capacitors or they put them in as a just in case if they needed more. Not sure why they would skimp on the caps tho since when you buy a whole reel the cost of one capacitor is a fraction of a cent.

Its quite common to see components marked DNF(I like to mark it DNP) on schematics.
