XC-3: What the heck is the BCM server?

Hi,

while analyzing the code of the XC-3 kit something really puzzels me. I do not find the PWM (or similar) conversion. There is a mystic BCM Server which seems to do the task. But can me anybody point to better description of the algorithm than the somewhat hard to read source code?
