Status of XCORE-200 EVALUATION KIT (XK-EVK-XE216)

Post by aclassifier »

According to Digi-Key (XK-EVK-XE216):
This product is no longer manufactured and will no longer be stocked once stock is depleted.
However, it is still on the XMOS page: XCORE-200 EVALUATION KIT (XK-EVK-XE216). I thought that XMOS is the "the first" to remove any mention of older products.

What is the status of this board?

I rather love this board and have used it in several projects, and since Digi-Key still has some, I purchased some now and will buy an external MEMS mic for each, and continue with that one instead of my Mic array board, which I now seem to have only one left of (xrun: Cannot load image, XCore 0 is not enabled)

It's not listed as EOL here: https://www.xmos.ai/advisories-and-notices/, so I very much hope it is a mistake.

I use this board a lot, and it would be a minor disaster for me if they discontinue it.

I responded to Digi-Key that
You state that "This product is no longer manufactured and will no longer be stocked once stock is depleted." However, on the XMOS advisories page https://www.xmos.ai/advisories-and-notices/ this is not stated as such.

I did read a paragraph the other day, on your page, along the line "the manufacturer has not informed of any such end of life, but we have set it to obsoleted" - but I cannot find this url now
.

We deserve an answer from XMOS on this one. There has been hints here on the forum that a new USB reference design supporting the v15 tools will be released soon and I recall in one of these posts saying to target the xcore.ai chips for any new designs related to multichannel audio (of course can't find it now). The XS2 chips are used in so many products that I doubt they will be EOL anytime soon, but my guess is they won't be recommending them for new products since we have the new XK-EVK-XU316 https://www.digikey.com/en/products/det ... 6/16839843. My largest complaint is that the new chips / evk do not support RGMII - only MII for 10/100 ethernet.

Here is from my reply from Digi-Key: ..."I have reached out to the appropriate personnel to contact the manufacturer for a definitive status and I will update you when I get a response from them"...

Available for backorder on Newark: https://www.newark.com/xmos/xk-evk-xe21 ... dp/68Y1450. This could be due to ancillary components on the board that are difficult to get like the AR8035 and S25LQ080B.

They've used a variety of QSPI flash devices on the explorer kit. Providing it's compatible there's no problem. The IS25LQ080B shown in the schematic is often an IS25LQ016. I think they are now obsolete and replaced by IS25LP...

I've no idea about availability of the AR8035, but lack of product due to shortages and discontinuation are different things. We need a bit of clarity from xmos, so please keep asking and hopefully we'll get a response.

Digi-Key (Wendy Goff) has indeed got an official answer from XMOS stating that
To confirm for you, Digikey has the last stock of this XK-EVK-XE216 kit anywhere including us.
The backorder issue from Newark then is rather unresolved. I will not follow that thread.

This still confuses me. It can simply mean DigiKey has the only stock there is, which is not the same as saying DigiKey has the last stock there will ever be. I'd still like more clarification.
