@T-5 and @akp,

I would like to try linking via TDM with two of the multichannel reference boards (..._xk_216_mc), but I would rather not make any hardware modifications (besides adding jumpers).

Is this possible?

Yes. All you need to do in hardware is connect the fsync and bclk from one to the other in order to get a shared reference, then you can take the tdm out from one to the tdm in of the other. However, you'll need to change your software on one so it runs as a tdm slave.
